This class is part of an Ayurveda Master Class series (see: Vata Dosha, Kapha Dosha, & Tridosha)) intended for individuals who are familiar with the foundation principles of Ayurveda and are looking to move beyond the basic understanding of the Tridosha.
According to Ayurvedic philosophy, all things in the world - the entire cosmos! - are composed of a collaborative network of the energies of the five elements Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether (Space). These elements are grouped into three functional principles that are likewise present in everybody and everything called the doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha; they give rise to all rhythms and patterns in the natural world, and govern psychophysiological response and pathological changes in the human organism. When these three principles are working together in proper balance, they maintain a harmonious physiology, and thus healthy state of body and mind.
Body, mind, and consciousness must be in cooperation in order to maintain balance and thus health; learning how to bring these three facets of one’s being into balance requires an understanding of the unique energies of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, as well as how they work together.
The word Pitta is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘tap’, which relates to heat and austerity. Pitta is composed of fire and water elements and is the force of transformation in nature, expressing itself as the body’s metabolic system, governing digestion, absorption, assimilation, and body temperature. Pitta is especially important for healthy blood and skin and is connected to our sense of sight. In a balanced state, pitta promotes understanding and intelligence; out of balance, pitta arouses all inflammatory disorders, including anger, jealously, and hatred.
In this two hour class, we will discuss:

*Qualities (gunas) of the Pitta Dosha
